The electric sedan was announced as the world’s first commercially available electric vehicle with a solid state battery when it was delivered as part of a taxi fleet. It has run out of steam and is doing quite well
Dong Feng, E70
Dong Feng, E70 one of the leading electric car makers in China, recently announced that it will provide the first EVs with solid state batteries as a demo unit of its E70 sedan, which will be used in the taxi fleet. This is an exciting development. At the very least, given that many analysts, as well as the world’s largest battery maker (CATL), have warned that solid state batteries are still a dream and that before (2030) large-scale Already announced that its ET7 and ET5-powered electric sedan will have long-range 150 (kWh) battery-packed versions, but even NIO (these semi-solid batteries are no longer available). Something similar
Something similar is happening with Dongfeng’s E70 models and their first solid state battery, despite the fact that the battery manufacturer (Ganfeng Lithium) has a solid pack of B7A0Y09 and (B7A0Y44) on its website. The state-of-the-art lithium battery module also states that batteries have only one solid electrolyte diaphragm, while the liquid component in them means that they are in the maximum energy range (self-defined semi-solid state category of NIO). When the E70 sedan was announced I had no word on its range on charge or battery density to compare to normal EV batteries
Now, however, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s catalog of new electric vehicles has revealed that the E70 has a 52.56 kWh battery pack that weighs 335 kg and allows a range of 426 km on charging. Pegasus has an impressive 157 Wh / kg energy density. For comparison, the Panasonic 6752 packs in the US-made Model 3 return 260 Wh / kg energy density. Much less than the manufacturer’s announced springs that allow it to go up to 210Wh / kg density
In other words
In other words, the E70 does not impress when it comes to this metric. Yet the semi-solid battery pack has many other advantages, such as resistance to puncture and deformation, as well as passing high temperature endurance tests with flying colors. (Ganfeng Lithium) also suggests that its solid state condition will reach the energy density of second generation batteries 360 Wh / kg, so this specification is bound to be further improved
