Toyota’s second all-electric BZ model isn’t coming to the U.S. just yet, but photos released by the Chinese Ministry of Industry give us a good idea of what the Japanese automaker’s Tesla Model 3 might look like. What will the answer be?
What you see above is the Toyota bZ SDN concept that premiered late last year, although we didn’t know it at the time, it was basically a preview of the Toyota bZ3 sedan that was revealed last week (CarNewsChina). The bZ3 in China will be built by BYD, which supplies batteries and electric motors on top of Toyota’s own eTNGA floor plan, similar to how the crossover is produced in the country in collaboration with GAC.
The bZ3 will reportedly be offered with 183 or 244 horsepower in either case sent to the rear wheels from a battery pack of unknown capacity. But then the bZ4X isn’t all about acceleration and that’s never really been Toyota’s M.O outside of the GR lineup. Was a decent looking sedan. I’ll go on record and say that I like Toyota’s approach to geometric surfacing and the small rear deck reminds me of the Lucid Air, although obviously not as pretty. That it becomes clear
The big question, of course, is whether Toyota will ever bring a car like this stateside. We don’t know enough yet, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility. So there’s a hole in Toyota’s lineup for a compact electric sedan that the bZ3 will fill. Granted, the aversion to keeping your wheels on doesn’t end on this little EV
