Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued Internet of Things (IoT) licenses to two more companies. According to the details, PTA has issued licenses to Infostructure Pakistan (Private) LTD and Kwick High Tech & Solutions Pvt. Licenses are issued for which can be renewed after expiry.
According to PTA officials, the number of Internet of Things (IoT) operators has increased to six after the licenses were issued to these two companies. Earlier, PTA had issued IoT licenses to four companies, including Noby Solutions ( (Private) LTD IoT Technologies (SMC-Private) LTD LCC Pakistan (Private) LTD and WeatherWalay (Private) LTD The telecom regulator has issued Section 5 of Pakistan.
Telecommunication Act 1996 and PTA Regulatory Framework for Short Range Device and Terrestrial Internet of IoT license to these operators under the Things Services Licenses have been issued to these companies to establish, maintain and operate an IoT Low-Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) network for providing LPWAN services in Pakistan. After issuing IoT licenses to these two operators These companies have provided a brief description of the IoT application as well as the network topology including end devices gateways and central network server. A brief on end-to-end security has also been provided between Operators are required to provide reports on all network expansions regarding installation/addition of gateways and PTA from time to time. Provide any other information as required Typically IoT solution providers use existing cellular mobile operators’ connectivity and therefore do not need to deploy a new base station.
However, if a new base station is required to be deployed by the operator for any technical reason, the base station shall be registered by the PTA with the Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) and the company is bound to seek the approval of the PTA before installing the new gateways.
PTA released a regulatory framework for Short Range Devices SRD and Terrestrial Internet of Things Services in February this year. This framework provides a regulatory mechanism for the industry to enable the development of the IoT ecosystem in Pakistan. One of the major technologies used to power smart city systems and digital services such as smart homes, smart meters, transportation, etc.
